Here is my prefered activity in kayak. This challenging run brings you at the level of the river. Lost of the time, the river will be stronger than you, but if you are careful you can have a lot of fun.
To remind the different classes on the river here is a table:
| Class I | Flat water, lake, no obstacles. |
| Class II | Slight current, some obstacles, but no need to scout the rapid. |
| Class III | Pronounced current, obstacles, hidden spots. Needs to be scouted. |
| Class IV | Drops, strong current, difficult moves. Obligation to scout the rapid (except if you are crazy) |
| Class V | Don't go through it! Maybe if you are crazy and if you have a good life insurance! |
You can find on the market a multitude of boats. Your choice will be large, you can pick up a large boat, long boat, a short one. Your choice will reflect your level. Some boats will forgive you more mistakes, such as the Tiphon from Prijon (but heavy), other boats will bring you a lot of fun, such as the RPM from Dagger which will stick you in holes.
My personal choice has been made on the Reflex II from Perception. Since I was in an area where I couldn't access rivers bigger than class III, I prefered to increase the difficulties, and increase the sensations I could have in a kayak by choosing a "like as" slalom boat. Lighter than the Fox from Perception, this kayak will allow you to increase dramatically your skills. Since this boat won't forgive you any mistakes, you will have to be precise and you will learn from your errors!
